Watkins Glen Post Race Report

BK Racing: Post- Race Report

In the final road course race of the 2016 season, BK Racing drivers Matt DiBenedetto and David Ragan were showing strong runs before being collected in late-race accidents.

“It was a rough ending for our No. 23 Dr Pepper today,” said Ragan. “We had a solid weekend and good race going before our day ended just a few laps early.”

“Man, I am disappointed in the results because we ran much stronger than what that shows,” said DiBendetto. “Our No, 83 Dustless Blasting Camry was fast and Gene (Nead, crew chief) had great strategy going on to get us out front.

As the race got underway, two things were key – save fuel and run our own pit strategy. Crew chiefs Patrick Donahue (23 team) and Gene Nead (83 team) did just that and stayed on track while others around them hit pit road. Working their way as high as 5th and 7th position, unconventional calls was the way to go during the first half of the race.

As the late-race cautions blew frequently, both Ragan and DiBendetto were caught up in a multi-car wreck with just seven laps remaining in the Cheez-It 355. The damage was too severe to repair in just a few laps forcing Ragan to settle with a 33rd place finish while DiBenedetto was 34th.

The BK Racing teams have a weekend off before heading to Bristol Motor Speedway for 500 laps at the ‘World’s Fastest Half-Mile’. Race coverage begins Saturday night, August 20 at 8p.m. EST on NBCSN. Coverage can also be heard on PRN and SIRIUS radio channel 90.
