Joins Shriners International

From left: Chris Dilbeck, Imperial Potentate Alan Madsen and David Ragan. Dilbeck and Ragan became members of Shriners International during the fraternity's Imperial Session in July 2012.At the 2012 Imperial Session in Charlotte, N.C., NASCAR driver David Ragan was inducted into Shriners International fraternity as a member of Oasis Shriners. Ragan, who hails from Unadilla, Ga., began racing in the Banderlero Series at the age of 12. Under the guidance of his father, Ken, a former Winston Cup driver, Ragan had the advantage of years of exposure to the sport before he ever hit the racetrack. In his second year of competition, he won 12 races and a national championship.

As soon as he turned 18, Ragan made his first foray into NASCAR, running select Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series events. In 2007, he was Rookie of the Year of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and runner-up for the Rookie of the Year title in the Sprint Cup Series. Ragan’s success continued as he recorded 30 top-ten finishes in the Sprint Cup Series from 2007-2011.

In 2011, Ragan earned his first victory in the Sprint Cup Series at the Daytona International Speedway’s Coke Zero 400. Later that year, he also earned a win at the Sprint Showdown. In January of 2012, Ragan joined Front Row Motorsports and will race alongside David Galliard for the Ford team based out of Statesville, N.C.

In addition to Ragan’s racing achievements, he is a loyal supporter of Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Since naming our pediatric health care system his official charity of choice in 2008, he has used his popularity to increase awareness and raise funds for the organization. In addition, Ragan has taken time out of his busy schedule to visit several of the Shriners Hospitals and participate in public service announcements. At the 2012 Imperial Session, Ragan announced that his #34 car will be displaying the Shriners Hospitals for Children logo at the Sylvania 300 race in Loudon, N.H., on Sunday, September 23rd.

During the induction ceremony, Imperial Potentate Alan Madsen presented Ragan and his friend Chris Dilbeck with their fezzes. Both Ragan and Dilbeck were raised Master Masons at Williams Lodge in Cornelius, N.C., on May 22, 2012. Shriners International is thrilled to welcome these two outstanding young men to the fraternity.

David Ragan Presents Donation to

Shriners Hospitals for Children®

Diecast CarNASCAR Driver David Ragan is a big supporter of Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children®. In July, Ragan made a special appearance at the Shriners International convention in San Antonio, Texas, and brought a donation of $108,000 for Shriners Hospitals for Children®.

Over the past year, Ragan has been very active in raising awareness and funds for the health care system. He involved his fans with helping Shriners Hospitals for Children® through personal efforts and public fundraising events.

During the Lowe’s Motor Speedway weekend, fans got a chance to challenge Ragan to a go-cart race for a donation to the health care system. Ragan brought along a specially-designed Shriners Hospitals for Children®-themed go-cart for the event. Other fundraisers included silent auctions with memorabilia donated by other NASCAR teams, and the sale of a specially designed collectable “fantasy car,” designed with a Shriners Hospitals for Children® theme. Each car was personally autographed by Ragan.

“The relationship we’ve developed with Shriners Hospitals for Children® and Shriners International is truly special,” said Ragan. I know together we’re helping thousands of children each year, because I’ve seen the work they do and have met many of the children being helped. With the help of NASCAR fans across the nation, I know we will continue making a difference in the lives of children.”
In addition to these efforts, Ragan features the organization on his Web site and provides information about Shriners Hospitals for Children® to members of his fan club. In 2008, Ragan filmed public service announcements that were aired nationally to educate the public about the health care system.

“We appreciate David’s efforts, and those of his team and fans, in support of our health care system,” said Shriners Hospitals for Children® Director of Sponsorships and Giving Wayne Witczak. “David has helped our organization tremendously through his connections and fan-base within the NASCAR community, and brought an increased awareness of our programs and services for children and families.”

At appearances during the NASCAR season, Ragan held autograph sessions, where he met with Shriners fraternity members and patients of the health care system. When he wasn’t racing or making public appearances, he spent some of his personal time visiting the kids receiving care at Shriners Hospitals for Children®.

In appreciation of his work and personal involvement with the Shriners organization, Douglas E. Maxwell, who recently was elected president and CEO of Shriners Hospitals for Children®, presented Ragan with the Imperial Potentate’s Medallion. The presentation was one of his last acts as Imperial Potentate (president and CEO of Shriners International) for the 2008-2009 year.
Ragan’s donation of his time and fundraising efforts reflect his commitment, and the generosity of his fans, to the health care system.
